The plan for new immigration law as per Reforming American Immigration for Strong Employment (Raise) Act would cut the total number of immigrants admitted to the US by half, over a decade, and prioritize those who can speak English or are well educated.

There would be a cap the number of refugees admitted to the US every year at 50,000.

The diversity visa lottery will be eliminated, where USA currently allocates 50,000 visas a year to residents of countries that do not currently send significant numbers of migrants.

The Reforming American USA Immigration Visa for Strong Employment (Raise) Act would reduce the number of immigrants admitted to the US by 41% in its first year and by 50% over a 10-year-period.

Trump described the bill as a legislation that would represent the most significant reform to our USA Immigration system in a half century. He added that it is the fulfillment of his campaign promise to create a merit-based immigration system that protects American workers and taxpayers. Trump has advocated revamping legal immigration and reforming the system of legal immigration and shifting to a merit-based system, citing Canada and Australia as models.
